Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 September 2026

This policy explains what Hunting Game does with your information. We have tried to write it in plain language, because a lot of our players are teenagers and nobody should need a lawyer to understand what an app does with their location.

If you only read one part, read the summary.

Privacy at a glance

  • We need your location to run the game. While you are an active player in a running game, we collect your GPS position about once a second and show it to other players according to the rules of your role. Updates can continue when the app is in the background. We do not collect your location outside an active game.
  • Other players in your game see where you are. Chasers see a Runner's position at the interval set for that game. Referees see everyone, all the time. This is the game, not a side effect.
  • Anyone who has your game's join code can watch the game live on our website, without an account. Only share your join code with people you want in your game.
  • Your live location is deleted about 5 minutes after a game ends. So is the game's chat and your route for that game.
  • We do not sell your personal data, and there are no ads in Hunting Game. We do advertise the app on Facebook and Instagram, and unless you switch it off in Settings, Meta is told when one of those ads brought you here and whether you went on to play. No advertising identifier is used — see section 2.16.
  • You can download everything we hold about you, or delete your account, at any time — in the app under Settings, on the web at hunting-game.com/account/export, or through the separate account deletion page.
  • You must be at least 13 to use Hunting Game.
  • Your data is stored in the European Union (Paris, France). Some of our suppliers process data in the United States.

The rest of this document is the detail. Section 9 lists your legal rights and how to use them.

1. Who we are

Hunting Game is operated by Jasper Aelvoet, a sole trader (eenmanszaak) registered in Belgium.

ControllerJasper Aelvoet
Enterprise number1023.130.363
AddressKlein Amerika 1B, 9930 Lievegem, Belgium
Emailcontact@hunting-game.com

We are the data controller for the processing described here. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, because we are not required to. Any question about this policy goes to the email address above, and a person reads it.

This policy covers the Hunting Game mobile app for iOS and Android, the Apple Watch companion app, our servers and APIs, and hunting-game.com. It does not cover what Apple, Google, or other players do with information under their own control — see section 7.

2. What we collect

2.1 Your account

You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a code sent to your email address.

  • Sign in with Apple or Google gives us your name, your email address, a profile picture if the provider supplies one, and an identifier for your account with that provider. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address.
  • Email sign-in means we store your email address and, briefly, a 6-digit code.
  • We store your display name and, if you set one, a profile photo. If you do not set a photo, we generate a simple one from your initials.
  • Legacy guest accounts. Hunting Game used to offer a guest account with no email address. New guest accounts can no longer be created in the app. If you still have one and later sign in with Apple, Google, or email, everything from the guest account — games, XP, achievements, stats, coins, friends, power-ups, notification settings — moves onto your new account.

2.2 Your location

This is the sensitive part, so here is exactly what happens.

While you are an active player in a running game, the app reads your GPS position at high accuracy roughly once per second and sends it to our servers when you have moved at least 3 metres, or every 10 seconds if you are standing still. Each reading contains latitude, longitude, accuracy, altitude, altitude accuracy, heading, speed, and the time it was taken.

  • The location task can keep running while the game is active and the app is in the background. On iOS, the system shows its background-location indicator. On Android, a foreground service shows a persistent notification while location sharing is running.
  • We do not collect your location when you are not in an active game. The task is stopped when the game ends.
  • We also keep a simplified record of your route for the current game — up to 500 points, thinned out so that nearly-identical positions are dropped — so we can draw your path on the end-of-game screen.

If you refuse or withdraw location permission, you cannot play. There is no version of this game that works without it.

2.3 What happens in a game

Game identifier and join code, your role, whether you are ready, catches you made or received, power-ups you bought and used, out-of-bounds events, how far you travelled, when you joined and left, and the Play Zone drawn for the game.

2.4 Chat

Messages you send in a game, up to 1,000 characters, addressed either to everyone in the game or to your team. We do not scan or analyse the content. We store it until the game ends.

2.5 Friends

Who you are friends with. You become friends by sharing or scanning a friend code or link. Adding a friend takes effect immediately — there is no acceptance step, so treat your friend code like a phone number.

2.6 Progression

Experience points, level, coins, achievements, win/loss and distance statistics, daily bonus streaks, and the power-ups you own. XP and coin movements are kept in a permanent ledger so your totals can always be reconstructed.

2.7 Purchases

Hunting Game Pro is sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play and managed with RevenueCat.

  • We send RevenueCat your Hunting Game account identifier and whether you are anonymous or Pro. We do not send them your name or email address.
  • We receive back only whether you have an active subscription and when it expires.
  • We never see your card number or any payment details. Apple and Google handle payment.
  • In-game coins are not real money. They cannot be bought with money, cashed out, or transferred.

2.8 Notifications

If you turn on notifications, we store a push token — an identifier issued by Apple or Google and relayed through Expo — together with your app language. Notifications may contain another player's display name and, for a game invite, the game's join code.

2.9 Diagnostics

We use Google Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring to see which features are used, to receive crash reports, and to spot performance problems. These start only after you sign in, and they are attached to your Hunting Game account identifier plus whether you are a Pro user. You can turn them off in Settings, and they are off entirely in development builds.

We do not use any advertising identifier, we do not ask for tracking permission, and we do not share anything with data brokers. The one advertising company that receives anything from the app is Meta, only for measuring our own ads, and only as described in section 2.16.

2.10 Technical information

When you sign in we record the IP address and the device or browser description for that session, so you can be kept signed in and so we can spot suspicious sign-ins. The app also generates random identifiers for your installation and device so that offline changes can be synchronised correctly.

2.11 On your device

The app keeps settings, permission status and a local copy of your game data on your phone so it works instantly and offline. This never leaves your device except as described above, and uninstalling the app removes it.

2.12 Apple Watch

The Watch app does not collect location itself. It reads the watch's compass locally and receives a game feed from your phone every few seconds: your position, nearby players' positions, names, avatars and distances, and the Play Zone. We do not access HealthKit or any health or fitness data.

2.13 When you contact us

Whatever you send us in feedback or support, plus an email address if you provide one.

2.14 Marketing email

There is a "marketing emails" switch in your account settings. We have never sent a marketing email, and no system exists to send one. The switch records your preference for the day we might. If that ever changes we will tell you first, we will only send to people who have opted in, and every message will have a one-click unsubscribe.

2.15 In-app surveys

From time to time we ask some players what they think we should build next. Answering is optional, and there is no penalty for ignoring it.

  • Your answers are anonymous. They are stored with no account identifier, no name, no timestamp finer than the day, and no timing finer than fifteen seconds. Nothing in an answer record points back at you, and we cannot work out who wrote what.
  • Nobody gets the whole survey. The questions are grouped into blocks, and each person is given only a few of them, picked so that every block ends up with roughly the same number of answers. It keeps the survey short and means we hold less about any one person.
  • We do record, against your account, that you were invited and that you answered — nothing more. That is what stops the survey being shown to you again and stops the coin reward being claimed twice.
  • Because your answers were never linked to you, deleting your account does not delete them — we would have no way to find them. That is the point of storing them this way, and it is why we never ask for anything in a survey that could identify you.
  • Some questions ask about you in general terms, such as an age range or a country. Answer them or skip them as you like; nothing is checked against your account.

2.16 Measuring our ads

We advertise Hunting Game on Facebook and Instagram. To know which of those ads actually bring in players — and to stop paying for the ones that do not — the app includes Meta's measurement software, which tells Meta about a few moments: that the app was opened after being installed, that a guest account was upgraded to a full account, that a game was finished, and that a Pro trial or purchase was started, with its price.

What Meta receives with those moments is a random installation identifier that Meta's software creates on your device, a description of your device and app version, and your IP address. It does not receive your name, your email address, your Hunting Game account identifier, or any advertising identifier — we never ask for tracking permission, and advertising-identifier collection is switched off. On Android, Meta can also read the Google Play "install referrer", which is how it learns that one of its ads led to the install.

Meta uses this to report to us how our ads performed, and to decide who else to show them to. It is on by default, and you can switch it off at any time in Settings under Measure our ads; nothing more is sent from that moment on. Meta processes this data under its Business Tools terms as well as on our instructions; its privacy policy is at facebook.com/privacy/policy.

Under the GDPR we must have a legal basis for every purpose. Here they are.

Verify your Pro subscriptionTo give you what you paid forPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b))
Service emails (sign-in codes, account changes, deletion confirmations)Needed to operate your accountPerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b))
Ask you to answer a survey, and remember that you didTo decide what to build next, and to pay the thank-you reward onceLegitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — the record we keep about you is two facts (invited, answered) and nothing else; the answers themselves are anonymous and are not personal data
Crash reports, performance and usage diagnosticsTo keep the app working and fix what breaksLegitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — we balance this against your privacy by keeping it to your account identifier, starting it only after sign-in, and letting you switch it off
Measure whether our Facebook and Instagram ads workTo know which ads bring in players, and stop paying for the ones that do notLegitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — kept to a random installation identifier and a handful of events, with no advertising identifier and no account identifier, and switchable off in Settings
Prevent cheating, fraud and abuseTo keep games fair and the service safeLegitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f))

Where we rely on legitimate interests you can object at any time — see section 9. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing it does not affect what we did before you withdrew it.

Providing your location is a contractual requirement: without it you cannot play. Providing an email address is required to have an account you can recover.

We do not make any decision about you by automated means that produces a legal or similarly significant effect, and we do not profile you.

4. Who can see your information

4.1 Other players

This matters more than anything else in this policy, so it gets its own section.

WhoWhat they see
Everyone in your gameYour display name, avatar and role
ChasersA Runner's position, released at the interval set for that game — not continuously — and never while that Runner's Stealth power-up is running
RefereesEvery player's live position, at all times
Anyone with the join codeThe game live on our website, including player names, avatars and positions, without needing an account
Your friendsNotifications when you level up or invite them to a game

The Decoy power-up deliberately shows other players a false position for you. Blackout hides the map from a player.

Join codes are short numbers. Anyone you give the code to — or anyone who guesses it while your game is running — can watch that game on our website. About 5 minutes after a game ends, the code stops working. If you do not want your game watched, do not share the code.

4.2 Companies that process data for us

We use the suppliers listed at hunting-game.com/subprocessors, which names each one, what it receives, and where it processes it. In summary: Amazon Web Services hosts everything; Expo relays push notifications and app updates; RevenueCat manages subscriptions; Mapbox and Google render maps; Google Firebase provides diagnostics; Amazon SES sends our emails; Cloudflare provides DNS; Meta receives the ad-measurement events described in section 2.16.

Where these companies act on our instructions, we have contracts requiring them to protect your data to the standard set out in this policy and to use it only for what we ask. Apple and Google also act on their own account for sign-in, the app stores, and push delivery — for those parts, their own privacy policies apply.

4.3 Other reasons

We may disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of a person, to investigate cheating, fraud or abuse, or to establish or defend legal claims. If Hunting Game were ever sold or transferred, your information would move with it, and we would tell you first.

We do not sell your personal information. The only thing that goes to an advertising company is the ad measurement in section 2.16, which tells Meta whether our own ads worked — not what to show you elsewhere — and which you can switch off.

5. Where your data is

All of our own infrastructure — the database, file storage and servers — is in Paris, France, inside the EU.

Some suppliers process data in the United States: Apple, Google (including Firebase), RevenueCat, Expo, Mapbox, Cloudflare and Meta. Those transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, or on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the company is certified under it. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards for any specific supplier at contact@hunting-game.com.

6. How long we keep things

DataKept for
Email sign-in codes5 minutes, or until used
Live location, route history, and chat for a gameAbout 5 minutes after the game ends
A game's join codeStops working about 5 minutes after the game ends
A lobby that never startedCleared after 24 hours; deleted after 48 hours
The game itself (players, roles, results)About 15 minutes after it ends, the game is condensed into a permanent history record containing your account identifier, display name, avatar, role, result and distance — without any location, route or chat data — and the original records are deleted
Your game historyKept while your account exists, so you can see your past games
XP and coin ledgers, achievements, statistics, owned power-ups, friendshipsKept while your account exists
Survey invitations, and whether you answeredKept while your account exists
Survey answersKept indefinitely. They contain nothing that identifies anyone, so they are not personal data and there is nothing in them to erase
In-app notifications and game invitations30 days
Sign-in sessionsUp to 1 year, or until you sign out
Device sync records60 days after a device stops syncing
Server logs30 days
Feedback you send usKept while your account exists
Data exports you request7 days, then deleted automatically
Ad-measurement events held by MetaGoverned by Meta's own retention for business-tool data. They carry no account identifier, so deleting your account cannot reach them — and nothing new is sent once the switch is off

When you delete your account, everything above is deleted, including your profile photo and your entry in past-game history records. Database backups are kept for 7 days and are overwritten on a rolling basis; if we restore a backup, we re-apply any deletion that was made in the meantime.

7. Security

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. The database is not reachable from the internet. Access to production systems is limited to the operator.

One thing you should know: profile photos are stored at web addresses that are not password-protected. Anyone who has the address of your photo can open it. We do this so your avatar can load quickly for other players and on shared game pages. Do not upload a photo you would not be comfortable being seen. If you replace or delete your photo, the old file is deleted.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your rights, we will notify the Belgian Data Protection Authority within 72 hours and tell you directly where the law requires it.

8. Children

Hunting Game is for people aged 13 and over. When you sign in, you confirm that you are 13 or older. We do not ask for a date of birth, and we do not otherwise verify your age — so this is your declaration, not a check we perform. We collect no date of birth and no age.

We know that families play together, and there is a Family mode for that. But this app shares a precise, live location with other players, so if you are a parent: please play with your children rather than letting them play with strangers, and only share join codes with people you know.

If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email contact@hunting-game.com and we will delete it. See our Child Safety Policy for more.

9. Your rights

Your right to object

Under Art. 21 GDPR, you have the right to object when we use your information on the basis of legitimate interests. Email contact@hunting-game.com and explain what you object to. We will stop that use unless we can show compelling legitimate grounds that override your rights, or we need the information for a legal claim. You can switch diagnostics off immediately in Settings.

Your other rights

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to:

  • get a copy of your data — build one yourself, instantly, in Settings or at hunting-game.com/account/export;
  • ask for rectification of anything wrong — your name and photo are editable in Settings;
  • delete your account and data — in Settings, or at hunting-game.com/account/delete;
  • take your data elsewhere, in a machine-readable format — that is what the export is;
  • restrict processing in the cases covered by Art. 18 GDPR;
  • withdraw consent for anything based on consent, without affecting what came before;
  • not be subject to automated decision-making — we do not do any.

One honest limit: anonymous survey answers cannot be exported or deleted, because nothing connects them to you (section 2.15). They are outside these rights for the same reason they are safe.

Use the app or the web pages above where you can; they are immediate. Otherwise email contact@hunting-game.com and we will answer within one month. If a request is unusually complex we may take up to two further months, and we will tell you why within the first month. We may ask you to confirm your identity, but only where we have a genuine reason to doubt it, and we will not ask for more than we need.

You can complain to a supervisory authority. Ours is:

Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données (APD/GBA)

Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels, Belgium

+32 2 274 48 00 — contact@apd-gba.be — www.dataprotectionauthority.be

You can also complain to the authority where you live or work. If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, and you may complain to us directly first — email contact@hunting-game.com with "Complaint" in the subject and we will acknowledge it within 30 days.

10. Cookies, local storage and your device

Our website uses no analytics cookies, advertising cookies or trackers. Nothing on hunting-game.com asks for consent because nothing on it tracks you.

The app stores things on your device: your settings, your permission status, a local copy of your game data, and random identifiers that let your device sync correctly. The diagnostics described in section 2.9 and the ad measurement in section 2.16 each store an installation identifier on your device; you can switch either off in Settings.

11. If you are in the United States

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. If your state treats the ad measurement in section 2.16 as "sharing", the Measure our ads switch in Settings is your opt-out. We collect precise geolocation, which several states treat as sensitive — we use it only to run the game, never to infer anything about you.

Depending on your state you may have the right to know, correct, delete, obtain a copy of, or opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Use the tools in section 9; they are open to everyone regardless of where you live. To appeal a decision, reply to our response and say you are appealing.

Do Not Track: our website does not respond to Do Not Track signals, because it does not track you in the first place. We allow no third party to collect personal information about your activity across other sites.

12. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects you we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Past versions are available on request.

13. Contact

Email: contact@hunting-game.com — for anything in this policy, including privacy requests, complaints, and reports about a child's account.

Postal address: Jasper Aelvoet, Klein Amerika 1B, 9930 Lievegem, Belgium.
